5th and 6th Grade: October 4, 2017

During class today, we were grammar detectives!  Remembering the phrases with "quiere" and "puede" from the Ormie video, we learned a little bit about how to make verb phrases in Spanish.

Ask your student:
  • How many verbs were you able to remember in Spanish?  When you listed the verbs what did they mean in English (or WHO was the one doing the action)?  (We brainstormed a list of Spanish verbs that students have learned in the past.  In the past, we have always learned the "he/she" form of the verb.)

Vocabulary:
Words in bold are new this week, others are review.
  • quiere - he/she wants to
  • puede - he/she is able to
  • come - he/she eats
  • comer - to eat
  • quiere comer - he/she wants to eat
  • puede comer - he/she is able to eat
Grammar Concept:
Today we learned a little about Spanish verbs.  Usually we learn the "he/she" form of the verb in class.  We brainstormed a long list of verbs we already know.  Here are just a few:
  • cocina - he/she cooks
  • lee - he/she reads
  • habla - he/she talks
  • escucha - he/she listens
  • busca - he/she looks for
  • camina - he/she walks
  • corre - he/she runs
  • canta - he/she sings
  • nada - he/she swims
When you want to make a phrase with "quiere" or "puede" you have to add an "r" to the end of the he/she form of the verb.
  • cocina - he/she cooks
  • cocinar - to cook
  • quiere cocinar - he/she wants to cook
  • puede cocinar - he/she is able to cook

Homework:
Please email me if you need your Quia username and/or password.
  • Bible Memory:  This semester, we'll be memorizing 2 Corinthians 13:11 as an (HC)2 group.  We will practice memorizing this verse in Spanish.
    • Previous Assignments:  Did you miss last week's assignment?  If you were absent, you may still complete it for 2 stickers each.  If you weren't absent, but didn't get to the assignment, you may still complete the assignments for one sticker each.
