5th and 6th Grade: April 29, 2015

In class today, we worked on wrapping up a few loose ends and writing about our amigos.  Students also filled in a map with the Spanish-speaking countries and capitals of Central America.

Ask your student:
  • How well do you think you knew the countries and capitals of Central America?  (Students filled out a map in class today to earn some extra stickers!)

  • Next week (May 13) is the last time to earn stickers for memorizing the Lord's Prayer (or part of it) in Spanish.

3rd and 4th Grade: April 29, 2015

In class today, we reviewed the nature-related vocabulary words.  Then we compared the state symbols of Michigan to the national symbols of Honduras.  There were some interesting similarities.

Ask your student:
  • What national symbols of Honduras were the same as Michigan's state symbols?  (Their national tree is the white pine and their national animal is the white tail deer.)
  • What symbols did you choose for yourself?  (Each student chose at least 4 symbols to represent themselves.)

This week, we finished a year of working hard at learning numbers in Spanish by playing the "más grande/más pequeño" number game.

  • What number did you choose for your classmates to guess?  (Each student chose a number and a few classmates had to try to guess what it was.)

Today in class, we practiced some more shape words!  Next time, we'll review them with a fun BINGO game.

  • Can you show me the book you made in Spanish class?  (Students brought home their "shape walk" books.)

5th and 6th Grade: April 22, 2015

In class today, students created "amigos" and practiced describing them in Spanish.

Ask your student:
  • What does your "amigo" look like?  What is his/her name?  (Some students brought theirs home, others left them in class.  Students, if you took your amigo home, please be sure to bring him or her back next week...otherwise you'll get to use one of the "leftover" amigos I made with mismatched clothes and gray hair!  ;) )

In class today, we started our final unit.  We learned some nature-related vocabulary and we talked about the state symbols of Michigan.  Next week, we'll see how they compare with the national symbols of a Spanish speaking country in Latin America.

We wrapped up our unit about the Spanish festival of "Las Fallas."

Ask your student:
  • What is the AVE?  (It's a fast train in Spain.  Ave is short for Alta Velocidad-High Speed.)

In class today, we finished our unit about Jonah!  We took some time to review our vocabulary words and then we acted out the story as a class.
