4th, 5th, 6th Grade: February 24, 2016

Today, students had an in-class work day to work on writing their stories in Spanish!  I can't wait to see everyone's final product next week!  Feel free to email me (ambrouwer@hollandchristian.org) over the course of the week if you run into any questions as you're working on your story!

Today in class we began a new unit.  We'll be learning vocabulary to describe people.  This week we started by learning the vocabulary to describe eyes.

2nd Grade: February 24, 2016

We continued practicing and reviewing different school-related vocabulary words.  This week, we focused on the verbs (open, close, take out, put away) and played a charades type game.

1st Grade: February 24, 2016

In Spanish class, we started a new unit.  Over the next few weeks, we'll be learning the words for a Bible story in Spanish.  At first, I didn't tell the students what story we'd be learning, but I encouraged them to see if they could figure it out.  By the end of class today, they were able to guess correctly!

4th, 5th, 6th Grade: February 17, 2016

This week, we began wrapping up our storytelling unit.  I told *my* last story in class.  Next week, students will be working on creating their own stories in Spanish, and on March 2, they'll have the opportunity to share those stories with the class!  (See homework section below for a description of the final story writing project!)

Ask your student:
  • Who was the "amiga del día" in Spanish class today?  What is one thing you learned about her?  (This week, our "amiga del día" was a girl who has a cat and a dog.  We learned that the cat likes to sleep on her bed, and sometimes fights with the dog.)  
  • What was the silly story about in Spanish?  Could you understand most of it?  (It was about a giant gecko and all of the other characters we have had in our previous stories!)

    Today we finished our unit on outdoor/winter clothes.  Using the paper cutouts from two weeks ago, we "dressed" a stick person to go out in the cold!

      4th, 5th, 6th Grade: February 3, 2016

      Over the next few weeks, we'll be learning and reviewing a lot of high frequency vocabulary words through silly stories.  As part of this unit, we'll also be learning the Spanish question words.

      Ask your student:
      • Who was the "amiga del día" in Spanish class today?  What is one thing you learned about him?  (This week, our "amigo del día" was a boy who likes comics.  He likes reading them and even writing/drawing his own.)  
      • What was the silly story about in Spanish?  Could you understand most of it?  (It was about a boy who likes kiwi, but when he tries to buy some, a giant gecko comes and eats them.)

      3rd Grade: February 3, 2016

      Today in class, we continued learning words for a Bible story in Spanish!  We now have all the words we need, and next week, we'll talk about the story of the Good Samaritan all in Spanish.

      • What was your story about in Spanish class?  (Using the words we've been learning, students were able to finish a story that I started.  I was quite impressed with their creative endings.  I was even more impressed that they wrote those creative endings all in Spanish!)

      We began class by talking about the weather and calendar in Spanish.  Today, we talked about the Very Hungry Caterpillar's picnic.  We had a lot of opportunities to talk about which foods we like!

      In class today, we reviewed our outdoor clothing vocabulary by coloring and cutting some visual aids.  Next week, we'll finish the unit with a few games.
