Today in Spanish class, we finished our comic strips and we worked on illustrating some 3 sentence stories.

    • Students are allowed to practice and "redo" assignments as often as they like.  Practice is how we learn.
    • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

4th Grade: September 25, 2019

Today in Spanish class, students told me they'd like to help plan Pedro's family reunion.  I told them they could, as long as we planned the whole event in Spanish!  ;)  Today, we reviewed family-related vocabulary by creating the guest list.

PET PHOTO REQUEST:  Parents of 2nd and 3rd Grade students, as part of our Mascotas (Pets) unit, I would like to create a slide show with pictures of the students' pets!  Could you please email me a picture or two of your pets?  I will need the photos by October 4.  Gracias!

Today in Spanish class, we continued practicing family and colors vocabulary words.

  • What was surprise at the end of the story in Spanish class?  (The family in the story had a dog.  At the end, we saw that it was a very big dog, like Clifford! )

  • What happens to the semillas (seeds) that the tapir eats?  (Because the tapir eats a lot of fruit, they eat a lot of seeds.  The seeds don't get digested, tapir "droppings" have a lot of seeds.  Tapirs help to plant a lot of plants in the rain forest!)

  • Previous Assignment:  Did you miss last week's assignment?  If you were absent, you may still complete it for 2 stickers each.  If you weren't absent, but didn't get to the assignment, you may still complete the assignments for one sticker each.

    • In 4th grade, there will be a Spanish homework assignment nearly every week.  In general, I will use online activities for our homework assignments.  These assignments will give students one extra opportunity during the week to practice Spanish.  Taking advantage of the extra practice helps language learning to "stick" more. 
  • Online assignments:
    • Students are allowed to practice and "redo" assignments as often as they like.  Practice is how we learn.
    • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  What does that mean?  (Each week, students will take turns being the estrellita - star - in Spanish class.  They get to sit in a special chair and be a special helper in the class.) 
  • What game did you play at the end of Spanish class today?  (There was a picture of 5 silly creatures on the screen.  Señora Brouwer described one of the silly creatures in Spanish, and students had to tap the right one with a fly swatter.)

Today in Spanish class, we began our first unit in Spanish class.  Over the next few weeks, we'll be creating a story together using our amiguitos.

Ask your student:
  • What do you remember about the silly story from Spanish class?  (It was about a red robo-monkey who was good.  There was also a blue robo-monkey that was bad.  Next week, we'll find out what happens!)
  • What are the "Super Seven"?  (They are seven important and useful verbs in Spanish!)
