            5th and 6th Grade: November 28, 2018

In the past, we've listened to the Christmas song "El Burrito de Belén" (The Donkey of Bethlehem) in Spanish class.  This year, we'll be learning more about the song and the Venezuelan composer.  This week, we learned about the "Cuatrico"--an instrument mentioned in the song and an important part of Venezuelan music.

            Ask your student:
            • What is a "cuatro"?  How does it compare to a guitar?  (A cuatro is an instrument in the guitar family.  It is common in all of Latin America.  It is smaller than an guitar and it only has 4 strings--that's why it's called "un cuatro.")

Words in bold are new this week, others are review.

                • A few notes about Quia...
                  • If the game is not loading for you, it may be because you don't have the most up to date version of Adobe Flash.  If you get a message that the game can not load, you can click on "HTML Version."  The graphics aren't as fancy, but the content is the same.
                  • Our older (4th-6th Grade) students each have a unique Quia username and password...one of your older siblings/children may have that.  However, for 2nd and 3rd grade, students do NOT need to log in to play Quia games.  Just follow the link and begin the game.

                • NUMBER Practice:   In October, we learn/review numbers from 1-20.  I find that for most students, the numbers 11-20 are the most challenging to learn.  Use some the of the games below to practice and review at home.
                • Previous Assignment (great review during this whole unit):  play this short game to practice the word "hay."  CLICK HERE
                  • A few notes about Quia...

                  Bible Verse:
This semester, our (HC)2 group will be memorizing a passage from Matthew 25.  In 2nd and 3rd grade, we will also be memorizing part of Matthew 25:40 in Spanish.
                  • Cada vez que ustedes hicieron algo por mis hermanos más pequeños, también lo hicieron por mí.  Mateo 25:40 (veinticinco versículo cuarenta).
                  • Audio version
                  Homework:
Occasionally, I will post links to videos, songs, or other resources for you to watch with your child over the week.  This is not required homework, but it is an opportunity to provide exposure to Spanish during the week.
                  • Video/Listening Practice
                    • VIDEO:  Pedro Makes a Sandwich!  (Students, see how much you can understand!  Parents, you can click on "CC" to see Spanish captions with the English translation.)
