5th and 6th Grade: February 28, 2018

This week, we finished our unit about Eduardo la piñata.  We answered questions about the story in class.  We'll take a few minutes to finish that up next week before focusing on "amigos del día" over the next few weeks.

Grammar Concept
Me gusta vs Me gustan
  • In Spanish you use "Me gusta" (I like) when what you like is either an action or a singular noun.
    • Examples:
    • Me gusta cantar.  = I like to sing.  (sing = action)
    • Me gusta la casa.  = I like the house.  (the house = singular)
    • Me gusta limpiar la casa.  = I like to clean the house.  (I like "to clean" = action)
    • Me gustar leer los libros.  = I like to read the books.  (I like "to read" = action...even though books is plural, the action comes first.)
  • In Spanish you use "Me gustan" (I like) when what you like is plural.

4th Grade: February 28, 2018

Today in class we continued our new unit.  Over the next few weeks, we'll be learning vocabulary to describe people.  This week we started by reviewing the vocabulary to describe eyes and learning the vocabulary to describe hair.

This week we practiced reading the book Yo Veo in class.

    We read a short story to practice our school-related vocabulary words.  Then we played a Valentine's Day related game to practice numbers.

    We celebrated Valentines Day together as a class today!  In Mexico, Valentine's Day is called "El día de amor y amistad" = The Day of Love and Friendship.  What a great thing to celebrate together!

    We continued practicing school-related vocabulary words with a fun activity of filling up a mochila (backpack) with drawings.

    Ask your student:
    • What was in your "mochila" you drew in class?  How did you know what to draw? (Students rolled two dice.  Each number they rolled corresponded with a specific object to draw.  We had some stuffed backpack drawings!)

    This week, we learned all about the sense of smell.  We also practiced describing everyday objects using our five senses.
