2018-2019

Welcome to Spanish Class!  We have lots of exciting things to learn in 5th and 6th Grade Spanish this year!  My goal is to teach the class 90-100% in Spanish.  We'll use actions, pictures, stories, songs, videos, and a lot of repetition to make sure each student understands and is successful.  Be sure to check this blog often for videos of vocabulary words, links to songs we're singing in class, and other fun resources.

Here's a quick overview of what we'll be learning...

First Semester
  • First Semester Bible verse:  Coming Soon!
  • Unit 1:  Los Ñus (The Wildebeest: Focusing on the verb "dice" and reviewing the Super Seven verbs)
  • Unit 2:  Arte y Adverbios (Art and Adverbs of location)
  • Unit 3:  La Flor de Nochebuena (Mexican Christmas Poinsettia Legend)
Second Semester
  • Second Semester Bible verse:  Coming Soon!
  • Unit 4:  Los Flamencos (Studying the flamingos of South America)
  • Unit 5:  Chile (Using high frequency Spanish vocabulary to learn all about Chile)
  • Unit 6:  ¡Autores!  (We'll all become authors as we use all that we've learned to write and illustrate simple books in Spanish.)
Into each of these units, I'll be incorporating the Sweet Sixteen Verbs.  The Sweet 16 are made up of "Los Súper Siete"--The Super Seven, plus nine additional high frequency verbs.  These verbs are some of the most common verbs in the Spanish language that will allow students to communicate about a variety of topics:
  • hay = there is/there are
          •  da = he/she gives
  • es = he/she is
          • dice = he/she says
  • está en = he/she is located in
          • hace = he/she does/makes
  • tiene = he/she has
          • oye = he/she hears
  • quiere = he/she wants
          • puede = he/she is able
  • va a = he/she goes to
          • pone = he/she puts
  • le gusta = he/she likes
          • sabe = he/she knows
          • sale = he/he leaves
          • ve = he/she sees

During each class period, we will also practice greetings, manners, seasons, calendar (months, days), numbers 0-100, and basic classroom vocabulary in Spanish.
