5th and 6th Grade: September 26, 2018

Today in Spanish class, we continued talking about the Wildebeest story line.  This week, we wrote our own stories about a cat, a dog, and a mysterious object in the yard.

Ask your student:
  • In the story you wrote, what was the mysterious green object in the yard?  How did your story end?  (Students each created their own ending in Spanish, but the mysterious object was either a hose or a snake!)

  • Bible Memory:   This semester, we will be memorizing Matthew 25:  35-36, 40 as an (HC)2 group.  We will practice memorizing this verse in Spanish as well.

In 5th and 6th grade, there will be a Spanish homework assignment nearly every week.  In general, I will use the website Quia for our homework assignments.  These assignments will give students one extra opportunity during the week to practice Spanish.

A few notes about Quia assignments:
  • You will need your Quia username and password to access the assignments.  Each student should have received that information at Meet the Teacher Night or today in class.  If you have misplaced the paper, please email me and I can get you that information as soon as possible.
  • Students are allowed to practice and "redo" Quia assignments as often as they like.  Practice is how we learn.
  • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

Today in Spanish class, we continued reading a story in Spanish and practicing the verbs "hay" and "le gusta."

  • Who was the "estrellita" today?  What does that mean?  (Each week, one student will be the estrellita=star in class.  That student will be my helper for the class and he/she gets to sit in a special chair.  Everyone will get a chance to be the estrellita!)
  • What food family did you make up in Spanish class?  (In the cookie story we read, there was a big dad cookie, a medium mom cookie, and a small baby cookie.  Students made up new families based on their favorite foods.)

Today in Spanish class, we continued talking about the Wildebeest video from last week.  This week, we read a story with different characters that followed the same storyline...but with a twist at the end!

Today in Spanish class, we continued talking about the Wildebeest video from last week.  We added a few details to the story and practiced listening, reading, speaking, and writing in Spanish

  • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

    Today in Spanish class, we started our first unit by reading a short story in Spanish!

    • What does "Hola, hola, caracola" mean? (It means "Hello, hello, snail."  It's sort of like saying "See you later, alligator" in English.  It doesn't make sense, but it's fun to say because it rhymes.)
    • What was your story about in Spanish class?  (It was about a fox named Olivia who sees birds in a tree.  Each bird is a different color.  At the end of the story, there are so many birds in the tree that the branch breaks!)
