4th Grade: October 11, 2017

Today in class, learned a few new vocabulary words and then played a game to review all of the words we've learned so far.   I told the students that next week, we will learn 3 new words and then put everything together to tell a Bible story in Spanish!  See you can guess what story it is!  (Hint: It might be hard...the three words that will "give it away" are the ones we're learning next week!)

Ask your student:
  • What game did you play in Spanish class?  Do you remember how many points you had?  Did you ever get "el rey" or "el palacio"?  (We played a dice game.  Students took turns rolling two dice and translating the corresponding words.   If they rolled doubles, they got to have "El Palacio" or "El Rey."  If you would like to play the game at home, you can print a copy HERE.)
Vocabulary:
Words in bold are new this week, others are review.
  • el rey - the king
  • el palacio - the palace
  • ¿por qué? - why?
  • porque - because
  • tiene miedo (de) - he/she is afraid (of)
  • está en - he/she is located in
  • pone - he/she puts
  • otro - other/another
  • tiene - he/she has
    • NOTE:  Our 4th grade students had some great questions and we talked a bit about some differences between Spanish and English.  In questions and sentences with a "no" or "not" we say "have" in English, but they still use "tiene" in Spanish.
      • Example:  Ana does not have a tomato = Ana no tiene un tomate.
      • Example:  Does Francisco have a cat?  = ¿Tiene Francisco un gato?
  • es - he/she it is
  • el hombre - the man
  • trabaja - he/she works
  • le dice - he/she says to him/her
  • se llama - he/she is called (named)
  • hay - there is/there are
Homework:
Please email me if you need your Quia username and/or password.
  • Bible Memory:  This semester, we'll be memorizing 2 Corinthians 13:11 as an (HC)2 group.  We will practice memorizing this verse in Spanish.
