2018-2019

Welcome to Spanish Class!  We have lots of exciting things to learn in 2nd and 3rd Grade Spanish this year!  My goal is to teach the class 90-100% in Spanish.  We'll use actions, pictures, stories, songs, videos, and a lot of repetition to make sure each student understands and is successful.  Be sure to check this blog often for videos of vocabulary words, links to songs we're singing in class, and other fun resources.

Here's a quick overview of what we'll be learning...

First Semester
  • First Semester Bible verse:  Coming Soon!
  • Unit 1:  Los Tres Osos (The Three Bears:  family, adjectives, storytelling vocabulary)
  • Unit 2:  El Sándwich de Pedro (Pedro's Sandwich: foods, manners, expressing likes and dislikes, expressing wants)
  • Unit 3:  La Piñata de Navidad (The Christmas Piñata: learning about traditional Mexican piñatas, Christmas vocabulary)
Second Semester
  • Second Semester Bible verse:  Coming Soon!
  • Unit 4:  Costa Rica y la Tortuga (Costa Rica and the Turtle: simple vocabulary related to Costa Rica and the Hawksbill Turtle)
  • Unit 5:  Pobre Enzo (Poor Enzo:  Body parts vocabulary)
  • Unit 6:  Jesús va a Jerusalén (Jesus goes to Jerusalem: )
Into each of these units, I'll be incorporating "Los Súper Siete"--The Super Seven verbs.  These seven verbs are some of the most common verbs in the Spanish language that will allow students to communicate about a variety of topics:
  • hay = there is/there are
  • es = he/she is
  • está en = he/she is located in
  • tiene = he/she has
  • quiere = he/she wants
  • va a = he/she goes to
  • le gusta = he/she likes

During each class period, we will also practice greetings, manners, seasons, calendar (months, days), numbers 0-100, and basic classroom vocabulary in Spanish.
