Ask your student:
- What is the history of the 5 de mayo holiday? (The ruler of France, Napoleon III, wasn't too concerned about getting his money back, he really wanted to rule over Mexico. The French army thought it would be easy to attack and take over Mexico. On May 5, 1862, the French army attacked the Mexicans in Puebla, Mexico. Even though Franc had 8,000 soldiers and Mexico only had 4,000, the Mexicans still won the battle. It was the first time that France lost a battle in 50 years! However, even though France lost the battle, they did end up winning the war and ruling Mexico for 5 years.)
