1st Grade: September 9, 2015

I was excited to have our first Spanish class this week!

Each week, we will start class by talking about the weather in Spanish.  This week, we focused on learning the phrase "hace sol" (it's sunny).

After that, we began learning some words for our first unit all about farm animals.  We spent a lot of time speaking only in Spanish and practicing those words.

Finally, we began learning our Bible memory verse (Psalm 100) in Spanish.  See the homework links below for more information!

Ask your student:

  • If Señora Brouwer says "Oh, alumnos" what do you say back?  ("Oh alumnos" means "Oh, students."  Students reply by saying, "Sí, maestra" which means "Yes, teacher.")
  • What were the two animals you talked about in Spanish?  Do you remember how to say their names in Spanish?  (We learned the words for frog--rana--and donkey--burro.)
This week's vocabulary:
  • Weather
    • hace sol - it's sunny
  • Animals/Actions/Colors
    • la rana - the frog
    • el burro - the donkey
    • corre - he/she runs
    • salta - he/she jumps
    • verde - green
    • gris - gray
    • grande - big
    • pequeño - small
Homework:
  • Bible Memory Verse!
  • This year, all of the (HC)2 Students will be memorizing Psalm 100 during the first semester.  We will also be memorizing part of it in Spanish class!  This week, we started by learning just the first verse in Spanish.  We'll continue working on the first verse until students are ready to move on!
    • Canten al Señor con alegría, toda la tierra.  Salmos 100:1 (cien, versículo uno)
    • Audio version (the audio version includes more than just the first verse, but it may still be helpful for 1st Grade students)
