2nd and 3rd Grade: February 12, 2020

This week, we re-read the story about the princess and the snowman.  Then we played some class listening/reading activities.  I'm really impressed with how well everyone knows our vocabulary words!

Ask your student:
  • What were you drawing in Spanish class?  (Señora Brouwer would read a description and someone would draw that snow man on the board.)
Vocabulary:
Words in bold are new this week, others are review
  • el gorro - the hat
  • los brazos - the arms
  • el botón - the button
  • los guantes - the gloves (also used to refer to mittens in Spanish speaking countries)
  • la zanahoria - the carrot
  • Review all colors
  • tengo - I have
  • quiere - he/she wants
  • hay - there is, there are
  • tiene - he/she has
  • es - he/she is

Song of the Week
Each week, we'll listen to and sing along with a fun song in Spanish.  It's a fun way to get us all up and moving while learning more!  If possible, I'll post a link to the song here so you can listen at home as well!
  • Bebé Tiburón (Baby Shark).
    • Note for YouTube Link:  I cannot control/predict the advertisements that YouTube will play before a song.  Please be aware of this and watch videos with your child so that you can monitor ads.
  • El Señor es mi Fortaleza  (Students are learning this song in English with Mrs. Walters!)
    • YouTube Link
  • Mi Mascota, Mi Amigo (My Pet, My Friend)
    • YouTube Link
  • El Coquí (The Coquí--a song about how the coquí sings at nighttime.  A lot of people in Puerto Rico consider the coquís their "lullaby.")

Bible Verse
This semester, our (HC)2 group will be memorizing a passage from Jeremiah 17.  In Spanish class, we will also be memorizing verse 7 in Spanish.
  • Bendito quien que confía en el Señor.  Jeremías 17:7
  • Audio Version (Coming next week)

Homework:
Occasionally, I will post links to videos, songs, or other resources for you to watch with your child over the week.  This is not required homework, but it is an opportunity to provide exposure to Spanish during the week.
