5th and 6th Grade: March 11, 2015

Over the next few weeks, we'll be talking about a popular Spanish festival, Las Fallas.  The festival takes place every March in Valencia, Spain.  We'll be reading a short story (in Spanish!) to learn about the festival and review a lot of the vocabulary we have learned this year.

Ask your student:
  • What is what thing you learned about "Las Fallas" so far?  (It's a festival in Valencia, Spain.  It takes place in March.  They make huge statues out of wood and paper mache and burn them.)

This week's vocabulary:
  • hermanos - siblings
  • viven - they live
  • su/sus - his, her, their
  • alegres - happy
  • quieren - they want
  • con - with
  • abre - he/she opens
  • vestidos - dresses
  • encuentra - he/she finds
  • empieza - it begins
  • montan - they set up
  • termina - it ends
  • queman - they burn
  • llevan - they wear
  • falleras - girls who wear the traditional clothing at the festival
  • falleros - boys who wear the traditional clothing at the festival
  • fallas - huge statues made of paper mache.  They are like 3-D political cartoons.
