5th and 6th Grade: November 1, 2017

This week, we started class by taking a few minutes to put finishing touches on our "Amigo del Día" posters.  Each week, we'll feature a new student, learn more about him or her, learn a lot of vocabulary words that are important to them, and learn how to react and respond in Spanish.

After that, we reviewed the grammar and vocabulary we've been learning.  We played a vocabulary game and made a few predictions.  Next week, we'll embark on Don Quixote's most famous adventures!

Ask your student:
  • Who was Dulcinea?  (The "princess" to whom Don Quixote dedicated his adventures.  She wasn't really a princess though.  She was a normal woman in town.  She was nice and hardworking, but not a princess.)
  • What do you think will happen when Don Quixote, Sancho Panza, and Rocinante head out for an adventure?

  • I am = yo soy
  • you are = tú eres
  • he is = él es
  • she is = ella es
  • to be = ser (used in a phrase like "quiere ser" - he/she wants to be)
Review:  When you want to make a phrase with "quiere" or "puede" or "necesita," you have to add an "r" to the end of the he/she form of the verb.
  • cocina - he/she cooks

  • quiere cocinar - he/she wants to cook
  • puede cocinar - he/she is able to cook
