Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Grade: April 15, 2020~Learn at Home

¡Hola amigos!  Pedro and I are sad we can't be at school with you, but we can still learn Spanish together!  We hope you enjoyed watching SALSA last week.  Here's another episode for this week!

**Please note, I can not predict nor control the ads that YouTube will show before videos.  Please monitor videos with your children.**

1.  Opening Routine
    • We start our classes by asking each other "¿Cómo estás?"  Watch this video to practice!
    Vocabulary
¿Cómo estás?  -  How are you?
bien - good/well
muy bien - very good/very well
mal - bad/poorly
aburrido - bored
feliz - happy
cansado - tired
    • We also talk about "las estaciones" /the seasons.  Watch this video.  (Press the "CC" button to see the English translations.)
2.  Language Lesson
  • You've worked hard all year learning new vocabulary words!  Let's have fun listening to those words in a short video!  Over the next few weeks, we'll be watching episodes of SALSA!  Today, the friends play hide and seek!
  • Before you watch the video, find a red crayon or marker, a blue crayon or marker, a green crayon or marker, and a yellow crayon or marker.  As you watch the video, every time you hear the word "rojo" (red) hold up the red crayon, when you hear "azul" (blue) hold up the blue one, when you hear "verde" (green) hold up the green one, and when you hear "amarillo.

3.  Finishing up

  • Sing the B-I-B-L-I-A. (The song is a little different than the version we sing in class, I'll see if I can find another version soon!)

                                   Es la palabra de Dios  (It's the word of God)

Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade Spanish: April 1, 2020~Learn at Home

¡Hola amigos!  Pedro and I are sad we can't be at school with you, but we can still learn Spanish together!  We hope you enjoyed watching SALSA last week.  Here's another episode for this week!

1.  Opening Routine

1st Grade: March 11, 2020

Today in Spanish class, we reviewed the vocabulary from the three bears story in Spanish.  We also got to practice a tornado drill.

Ask your student:
  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  (We had two estrellitas and we "interviewed" both of them.) 
  • What song did you vote for in Spanish class?  (We're voting for our favorite songs in Spanish class!  Check out the "Locura de Marzo" bracket HERE)

Occasionally, I will post links to videos, songs, or other resources for you to watch with your child over the week.  This is not required homework, but it is an opportunity to provide exposure to Spanish during the week.

1st Grade: March 4, 2020

Today in Spanish class, we read a story in Spanish.  It was a story everyone had heard before! 

Ask your student:
  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  (We had two estrellitas and we "interviewed" both of them.) 
  • Who are the Tres Osos?  (They're the three bears!  One student pointed out that "osos" sounds a lot like "ojos"--eyes--another word we learned this year.)

Today in Spanish class, we reviewed the "Diego está enfermo" book.  Next week, we'll use a lot of that same vocabulary as we begin listening to a familiar story in Spanish!

Ask your student:
  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  (We had two estrellitas and we "interviewed" both of them.) 
  • What does "abre la puerta" mean?  (It means "Opens the door."  Today, we had a student pretend to be a door while everyone else got to walk past.)
Vocabulary:

Today in Spanish class, we read a story about Enzo as we put together a Mr Potato Head.  Then, we wrote a description together as a class.

Today in Spanish class, students were incredibly patient with our projector that kept turning off!  We read a story about Enzo's friend, Rosita, and we played a potato guessing game.

Ask your student:
  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  (Each week, students will take turns being the estrellita - star - in Spanish class.  They get to sit in a special chair and be a special helper in the class. ) 
  • What was your guessing game in Spanish class today?  (Señora Brouwer put up 15 pictures of different potatoes and she would describe one in Spanish...some had eyes, some had ears, some had arms, etc...  Students did a great job listening to the description and choosing the right one!)

Today in Spanish class, we reviewed the Christmas Story in Spanish.  We spent a lot of time speaking in Spanish and we even read a short book together.

Today in Spanish class, we listened to (and acted out) the Spanish Christmas carol, Tin Tin.

Today in Spanish class, we made our own "Pavo de muchos colores" ("Many Colored Turkey") books!

Ask your student:

Today in Spanish class, we played a few games to practice talking about turkeys and colors.

Ask your student:
  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  What does that mean?  (Each week, students will take turns being the estrellita - star - in Spanish class.  They get to sit in a special chair and be a special helper in the class.  We will be starting second turns!) 
  • What game did you play in Spanish class?  (Students worked together as a team to find out how I wanted to them to color a turkey!  I would only give clues and directions in Spanish...both teams got it all right!)
