1st Grade: April 29, 2015

In class this week, we read a short story about transportation.  Everyone shared their favorite ways to get around.

Ask your student:
  • You made a small book about transportation in Spanish class today.  What is your favorite way to travel?  (Students brought their booklets home.)  
Today's vocabulary:
  • el avión - the airplane

  • el bote - the boat
  • el carro/el coche/el auto - the car
  • el autobús - the bus

Kindergarten: April 29, 2015

Today in class, we practiced some more shape words!  Next time, we'll review them with a fun BINGO game.

Ask your student:
  • Can you show me the book you made in Spanish class?  (Students brought home their "shape walk" books.)
This week's vocabulary:
  • el círculo - the circle
  • el cuadrado - the square
  • el triángulo - the triangle
  • el rectángulo - the rectangle
  • la estrella - the star
  • el óvalo - the oval
  • el corazón - the heart
  • el diamante (el rombo) - the diamond (the rhombus) 
Homework:
  • Sing along!  Alele, alelu, alelu, aleluya
  • Practice our Bible verse and actions:  Psalm 23:1  (Click verse for Audio). 
    • el Señor = the Lord = point up to heaven
    • es mi = is my = point to self 
    • pastor = shepherd = pretend to hold a staff in one hand, put other hand by forehead as if you're looking out over a field of sheep. 
    • nada = nothing = wave hands palms facing down
    • me falta = is lacking to me = place hands at side, palms facing upward.

5th and 6th Grade: April 22, 2015

In class today, students created "amigos" and practiced describing them in Spanish.

Ask your student:
  • What does your "amigo" look like?  What is his/her name?  (Some students brought theirs home, others left them in class.  Students, if you took your amigo home, please be sure to bring him or her back next week...otherwise you'll get to use one of the "leftover" amigos I made with mismatched clothes and gray hair!  ;) )

3rd and 4th: April 22, 2015

In class today, we started our final unit.  We learned some nature-related vocabulary and we talked about the state symbols of Michigan.  Next week, we'll see how they compare with the national symbols of a Spanish speaking country in Latin America.

  • What state symbols did you talk about?  Were there any that surprised you?  (Most students were surprised to learn that Michigan has a state soil.  Click HERE to learn more about it!)

5th and 6th Grade: April 15, 2015

We wrapped up our unit about the Spanish festival of "Las Fallas."

Ask your student:
  • What is the AVE?  (It's a fast train in Spain.  Ave is short for Alta Velocidad-High Speed.)

  • los billetes - the tickets

In class today, we finished our unit about Jonah!  We took some time to review our vocabulary words and then we acted out the story as a class.
