2nd Grade: March 9, 2016

We continued practicing and reviewing different school-related vocabulary words.  We also added a few more verbs (action words!) to our list.   Next week, we'll begin learning words for a Bible Story unit.

Ask your student:
  • What do lee and escribe mean? (Lee means reads and escribe means writes.)

Homework:
  • Sing along with our new numbers songs:  El Canto de las Decenas (The Song of the Tens...counting to 100 by tens in Spanish), Counting to 100 by Tens
  • Practice the numbers Spanish numbers from 0-60 with these games!
  • Second Semester Bible Memory
    • This semester, we'll be memorizing two short passages in Spanish.  Students received a hard copy of the verses in class.  If your student misplaced the paper, you can print a new copy HERE.

1st Grade: March 9, 2016

In Spanish class, we continued our new unit.  Over the next few weeks, we'll be learning the words for a Bible story in Spanish.  We began by playing a game to review the words from last week, and we added a few more new words.

Ask your student:
  • Do you remember any of the words you acted out in Spanish class?  (We played a game taking turns acting out different vocabulary words.)  
    Today's vocabulary:
    • New Vocabulary
      • le da - he/she gives to him/her
      • el estómago - the stomach
      • la gente - the people

    Kindergarten: March 9, 2016

    In class today, we continued our Animal unit!  Over the next few weeks, we'll be learning all about animals in Spanish!

    Ask your student:
    • What animal did you learn about in Spanish class today?  (We learned about frogs!  We also learned how to say that they are green and they jump.) 
    • What does a frog say in Spanish? (Instead of "ribbit," they say "croc" in Spanish.)
    This week's vocabulary:

      • dice - he/she says

    4th, 5th, 6th Grade: March 2, 2016

    Today, students had the opportunity to share their Spanish stories with the class!  I was impressed that so many students wanted to read their stories in class.  In fact, we didn't have time for everyone.  We'll finish up next week.  The stories that were shared today were FANTASTIC!  I was amazed by the creativity and the quality of the stories.

    Ask your student:
    • Who were the amigos del día in class today?  What did you learn about them?  (We had two "amigos del día":  a girl who has a dog that barks a lot, and a boy who likes to have sword fights with foam swords.)
    • Did you present your story in class today?   What were some of the other stories about?

    3rd Grade: March 2, 2016

    Today in class we continued new unit.  We'll be learning vocabulary to describe people.  This week we started by reviewing the vocabulary to describe eyes and learning the vocabulary to describe hair.

    Ask your student:
    • Do you remember how to say what color hair you have? (See vocabulary list below.)
    This week's vocabulary:
    • New
      • el pelo - the hair
      • el cabello - the hair (used in some Spanish speaking countries.  In class, we'll stick with "el pelo.")
      • el pelo rubio - blonde hair
      • el pelo castaño - brown hair
      • el pelo negro - black hair
      • el pelo rojo - red hair
      • el pelo canoso - gray hair 
      • calvo - bald

      4th, 5th, 6th Grade: February 24, 2016

      2nd Grade: February 24, 2016

      We continued practicing and reviewing different school-related vocabulary words.  This week, we focused on the verbs (open, close, take out, put away) and played a charades type game.

      • What did you have to act out in Spanish class? (Each student had to act out a sentence and the class had to guess...in Spanish...what they were doing.)

      1st Grade: February 24, 2016

      In Spanish class, we started a new unit.  Over the next few weeks, we'll be learning the words for a Bible story in Spanish.  At first, I didn't tell the students what story we'd be learning, but I encouraged them to see if they could figure it out.  By the end of class today, they were able to guess correctly!

      • What Bible Story will you be learning in Spanish class?  (See vocabulary list for a few clues...it's about Jesus feeding the 5000)
