5th and 6th Grade: October 30, 2019

Today in Spanish class, students worked to read a mini-magazine about capybaras. 

Ask your student:
  • Can you show me the magazine or mini book from Spanish class this week?  (Many students left them in their Spanish folders at school...but they should remember a fact or two!).

  • Online assignments:
    • Students are allowed to practice and "redo" assignments as often as they like.  Practice is how we learn.
    • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

4th Grade: October 30, 2019

This week, we prepared for "Special Person Interviews"!  Over the next weeks, we'll be learning more about each other as we learn how to describe people, their likes, dislikes and wants.

Ask your student:
  • What did you draw on your poster in Spanish class?  (Everyone divided their poster into 4 squares.  Square 1=self portrait, Square 2=what do you like to do?  Square 3=what are your like?-personality, Square 4=what is something you want?)

We will be wrapping up our pet unit next week.  Before we finish, we read one more short story about pets.  Next week, we'll celebrate our own pets again!

Today in Spanish class, we began a new unit.  Over the next few weeks, we'll be learning review body parts and colors while talking about a multi-colored turkey!

  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  What does that mean?  (Each week, students will take turns being the estrellita - star - in Spanish class.  They get to sit in a special chair and be a special helper in the class.)

We continued talking about pets this week and read a story about a girl who was trying to decide which pet she should get.

  • What happened with the cat and the fish in the Spanish story?  (The cat wanted to eat the fish.  When he jumped into the fish tank, the fish bit him on the ear!)

  • Bible Memory Verse (ongoing, first semester)  This semester, our (HC)2 group will be memorizing a passage from Philippians 4.  In Spanish class, we will also be memorizing verse 4 in Spanish.

  • Previous Assignment:  Did you miss last week's assignment?  If you were absent, you may still complete it for 2 stickers each.  If you weren't absent, but didn't get to the assignment, you may still complete the assignments for one sticker each.

  •  A few notes about homework
    • In 5th and 6th grade, there will be a Spanish homework assignment nearly every week.  In general, I will use online activities for our homework assignments.  These assignments will give students one extra opportunity during the week to practice Spanish.  Taking advantage of the extra practice helps language learning to "stick" more. 
  • Online assignments:
    • Students are allowed to practice and "redo" assignments as often as they like.  Practice is how we learn.
    • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

4th Grade: October 16, 2019

Today in Spanish class we practiced we wrote some "getting to know you" questions for Pedro's family reunion! 

Ask your student:
  • What sort of questions will Pedro's family be asking at their reunion?  (As a class, we created a list of 20+ questions to ask Pedro's family about things the like/don't like.)

Song of the Week
Each week, we'll listen to and sing along with a fun song in Spanish.  It's a fun way to get us all up and moving while learning more!  If possible, I'll post a link to the song here so you can listen at home as well!
