1st Grade: February 19, 2020

Today in Spanish class, we reviewed the "Diego está enfermo" book.  Next week, we'll use a lot of that same vocabulary as we begin listening to a familiar story in Spanish!

Ask your student:
  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  (No one!  Everyone has had two turns.  We don't have enough time for everyone to have a third turn, so next week, we'll start something new!) 
  • What does "¿Cómo estás?" mean?  (It means "How are you?"  Today, we took turns answering that question to start class.)

This semester, our (HC)2 group will be memorizing a passage from Jeremiah 17.  In Spanish class, we will also be memorizing verse 7 in Spanish.

Kindergarten: February 19, 2020

This week, we reviewed some color vocabulary.  The next story we'll be reading has a lot of colorful cats!

Ask your student:

        5th and 6th Grade: February 12, 2020

        This week, we worked together to create another silly character.  We'll use this activity as a fun way to work on describing things in Spanish.  In a few weeks, students will use what we've been learning to write a story about their own "amiguitos"!

        Ask your student:
        • What character did you create in Spanish class? (This time our silly character is a green avocado with six eyes and 3 long hairs.  His name is Fred.  Next week, we'll use storytelling verbs to create a story for Fred.

              • In 5th and 6th grade, there will be a Spanish homework assignment nearly every week.  In general, I will use online activities for our homework assignments.  These assignments will give students one extra opportunity during the week to practice Spanish.  Taking advantage of the extra practice helps language learning to "stick" more. 
            • Online assignments:
              • Students are allowed to practice and "redo" assignments as often as they like.  Practice is how we learn.
              • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

            This week we returned to talking about an "Amigo del día" (Friend of the day).  Over the next weeks, we'll continue learning more about each other as we learn how to describe people, their likes, dislikes and wants.

            This week, we re-read the story about the princess and the snowman.  Then we played some class listening/reading activities.  I'm really impressed with how well everyone knows our vocabulary words!

                      Today in Spanish class, we read a story about Enzo as we put together a Mr Potato Head.  Then, we wrote a description together as a class.

                      Occasionally, I will post links to videos, songs, or other resources for you to watch with your child over the week.  This is not required homework, but it is an opportunity to provide exposure to Spanish during the week. 

                      • Watch this video (featuring Pedro!) to practice weather vocabulary words.  Each week, we'll work on a Spanish weather report.

                        • Note for YouTube Links:  I cannot control/predict the advertisements that YouTube will play before a song.  Please be aware of this and watch videos with your child so that you can monitor ads.

                      Kindergarten: February 5, 2020

                      This week, we continued our "Chocolate" unit.

                      Ask your student:
                      • Who was the "estrellita" today?  (We're working our way through second turns.)
                      • Can you show me the "chocolate" book you brought home today?  (Students were excited to bring their books home to show you!)   
                      Vocabulary
                      Words in bold are new this week, others are review.
                      • el chocolate - the chocolate (also refers to hot chocolate you drink)
                      • está caliente - it is hot
                      • está frío - it is cold
                      • está perfecto - it is perfect
                      • prueba - he/she tries/tastes
                        Song of the Week
                        Each week, we'll listen to and sing along with a fun song in Spanish.  It's a fun way to get us all up and moving while learning more!  If possible, I'll post a link to the song here so you can listen at home as well!

                          Bible Verse
                          This semester, our (HC)2 group will be memorizing a passage from Jeremiah 17.  In Spanish class, we will also be memorizing verse 7 in Spanish.
