Today in Spanish class, students helped me continue to create a pretty amazing amiguito.

Ask your student:
  • What else can you tell me about Señora Brouwer's amiguito?  (He's a mean blue umbrella and he lives in Potatoland, which is part of Antarctica.)

  • Online assignments:
    • Students are allowed to practice and "redo" assignments as often as they like.  Practice is how we learn.
    • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

Today in Spanish class, we continued learning how to express likes and dislikes.  We worked together to act out the second part of a story in Spanish.

Ask your student:
  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  What does that mean?  (Each week, students will take turns being the estrellita - star - in Spanish class.  They get to sit in a special chair and be a special helper in the class.) 
  • In Spanish class, how did the story end?  (Diego was sick and wasn't hungry, but his grandma offered to make him tea and he drank that.)

Today in Spanish class, we read a story together about fish and colors in Spanish.

2nd and 3rd Grade: October 9, 2019

PET PHOTO REQUEST:  Parents of 2nd and 3rd Grade students, as part of our Mascotas (Pets) unit, I would like to create a slide show with pictures of the students' pets!  We started talking about the slide show in class this week.  There were so many great pictures that we weren't able to finish.  If you'd still like to send a picture, please send it to me this week.  (ambrouwer@hollandchristian.org)

  • Bible Memory Verse (ongoing, first semester)  This semester, our (HC)2 group will be memorizing a passage from Philippians 4.  In Spanish class, we will also be memorizing verse 4 in Spanish.

  •  A few notes about homework
    • In 5th and 6th grade, there will be a Spanish homework assignment nearly every week.  In general, I will use online activities for our homework assignments.  These assignments will give students one extra opportunity during the week to practice Spanish.  Taking advantage of the extra practice helps language learning to "stick" more. 
  • Online assignments:
    • Students are allowed to practice and "redo" assignments as often as they like.  Practice is how we learn.
    • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

4th Grade: October 2, 2019

Today in Spanish class we learned more about Pedro's family through a few reading assignments.  Students also made their "amiguito" stones.

Ask your student:
  • What is your amiguito stone?  (Unfortunately, the eyeball finger puppets weren't going to hold up to a year of use in class.  This is our "Plan B" for the amiguitos!  Students will be able to take them home at the end of the year.) 
Vocabulary:
Words in bold are new this week, others are review
  • quiere - he/she wants
  • tiene - he/she has
  • la mamá - the mom 
  • el papá - the dad
  • el abuelo - the grandpa
  • la abuela - the grandma
  • la hermana - the sister
  • el hermano - the brother
  • el tío - the uncle
  • la tía - the aunt
  • el primo - the boy cousin
  • la prima - the girl cousin
  • es - he/she/it is

Song of the Week
Each week, we'll listen to and sing along with a fun song in Spanish.  It's a fun way to get us all up and moving while learning more!  If possible, I'll post a link to the song here so you can listen at home as well!

    • Note for YouTube Link:  I cannot control/predict the advertisements that YouTube will play before a song.  Please be aware of this and watch videos with your child so that you can monitor ads.

  • Previous Assignment:  Did you miss last week's assignment?  If you were absent, you may still complete it for 2 stickers each.  If you weren't absent, but didn't get to the assignment, you may still complete the assignments for one sticker each.
