2nd and 3rd Grade: October 2, 2019

PET PHOTO REQUEST:  Parents of 2nd and 3rd Grade students, as part of our Mascotas (Pets) unit, I would like to create a slide show with pictures of the students' pets!  Could you please email me a picture or two of your pets?  I will need the photos by October 4.  Gracias! Thank you to everyone who has already sent photos!  I have sent a "thank you" reply to let you know I received the photos :)

1st Grade: October 2, 2019

Today in Spanish class, we began a new unit!  We'll be learning how to express likes and dislikes.  Through the rest of the year, we will "recycle" the colors and body parts vocabulary from our first unit through games, activities, and stories. 

Ask your student:
  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  What does that mean?  (Each week, students will take turns being the estrellita - star - in Spanish class.  They get to sit in a special chair and be a special helper in the class.) 
  • What foods did you talk about in Spanish class?  (We learned 4 new "food" words in class.  There were a few others we picked up in our silly song.)

    • Students are allowed to practice and "redo" assignments as often as they like.  Practice is how we learn.
    • For each assignment completed, students will earn 2 "sellos o pegatinas" (stamps or stickers).  At the end of the year, they will be able to trade their stamps and stickers for small prizes.

4th Grade: September 25, 2019

Today in Spanish class, students told me they'd like to help plan Pedro's family reunion.  I told them they could, as long as we planned the whole event in Spanish!  ;)  Today, we reviewed family-related vocabulary by creating the guest list.

Today in Spanish class, we continued learning about the Tapir of South America.  We played a game about how a tapir helps to "plant" forests!

1st Grade: September 18, 2019

Today in Spanish class, we continued our first unit.  We read a book about superheros meeting interesting creatures in the forest!  Then, we worked together to create a creature for Pedro to meet!

Ask your student:
  • Who was the estrellita in class today?  What does that mean?  (Each week, students will take turns being the estrellita - star - in Spanish class.  They get to sit in a special chair and be a special helper in the class.) 
  • What was the creature you created for Pedro?  How many arms/legs/teeth/eyes did it have?

  • la critura - the creature
    • amigo imaginario - imaginary friend
  • el superhéroe - the superhero
  • Los Colores - the colors
    • rojo - red

Song of the Week
Each week, we'll listen to and sing along with a fun song in Spanish.  It's a fun way to get us all up and moving while learning more!  If possible, I'll post a link to the song here so you can listen at home as well! 

Bible Verse
This semester, our (HC)2 group will be memorizing a passage from Philippians 4.  In Spanish class, we will also be memorizing verse 4 in Spanish.

    • Note for YouTube Links:  I cannot control/predict the advertisements that YouTube will play before a song.  Please be aware of this and watch videos with your child so that you can monitor ads.
